According to the view here taken, partly by wear, partly by the addition or substitution of new forms, e.g. a rounder E and S, the type as used in the' Dictys ' group had already been considerably modified: subsequently, at the stage when Gops put his name in a single book, the section mark §, which was not needed for its proper purpose, was economically used as an additional S. A positive link with Gops may perhaps be found in the occurrence of a filed out Q in the latter's edition of the Sermo de praesentatione (IA. 3903 = M27671), a few examples of this form being found in most of the books of this group. But even if the continuity of the fount be accepted, it was not necessarily in the same hands in 1473 as in 1475." |
